FoMA Program (Friends of Miami Animals)

A virtual foster pathway connecting rescue‑supported pets with adopters.

The FoMA Program works a little differently from the shelter listings. Instead of animals currently housed at the county shelter, FoMA partners with local rescues to help pets who are already in foster homes or rescue care. These pets aren’t physically at the shelter — they’re living with temporary caregivers — but they still need permanent families.

FoMA acts as a bridge:

  • rescues share the pets who need adoption,

  • FoMA amplifies their visibility,

  • and adopters can meet animals who may not appear in the shelter system at all.

It’s like a virtual foster network, giving rescue pets the same chance to be seen, loved, and chosen.

This section helps adopters understand that:

  • FoMA pets may have more background information because they’re living in foster homes,

  • meet‑and‑greets are coordinated through the rescue, not the shelter,

  • and these animals often thrive in home environments and are ready for adoption.
